Short & Social was born from a decade of storytelling experience in film, television, and branded content. Founder Jo Austin has produced long-form documentaries and dramas through her production label Candid Films, while also creating commercials and campaigns for some of Australia’s most recognised brands. With a career rooted in filmmaking, Jo’s work has always been about crafting stories that connect deeply with audiences, and whilst working with some of the best agencies in Sydney, Jo learnt valuable social and digital insight.
As the media landscape shifted, Jo recognised that brand storytelling was moving rapidly towards social platforms. The demand was no longer just for polished, long-form content, but for short, dynamic pieces designed to capture attention, spark emotion, and drive action in seconds. Drawing on her background and inspired by the struggles founders were having in this space, Jo launched Short & Social in late 2024 to meet this need — a studio dedicated to making premium, social-first content accessible for businesses of all sizes.
Today, Short & Social bridges the gap between high-end production and digital strategy. We help brands, creators, and even film projects build early audience engagement by delivering scroll-stopping content that is narrative-driven and strategically aligned.
